Theban Salem Al Mheiri United Arab Emirates

Theban Al Mheiri is amongst the first UAE nationals to take part in sports for people with determination. Despite being partially paralyzed due to a spine injury that was the result of a car accident in 1994, he has since achieved significant sporting success, with a goal of actively serving the community of Abu Dhabi by the developing the UAE Paralympic team.

In addition to his role as an administrator in the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, Al Mheiri serves as Secretary of the UAE Disabled Sports Federation, establishing unprecedented sporting opportunities and recognition for athletes with disabilities. He also played a pivotal role in the Al Ain Club for the Disabled, from 1999 until 2010.

His advocacy, dedication and tireless support of specialty sports programs attracted qualified and talented athletes of determination. He also helped launch several national sports programs in which the UAE is now competing on an international level.

Al Mheiri’s contributions extend beyond sports; he took part in a number of initiatives and projects aimed at creating an inclusive society, advocating for the integration of people with special needs.
