What is the Abu Dhabi Awards and what is its purpose?

It is a government initiative held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates.

The Abu Dhabi Awards honours inspiring individuals who have selflessly dedicated themselves to supporting others, while contributing to the betterment of the UAE community.

Award recipients are granted the Abu Dhabi Medal by a resolution issued by the Ruler of Abu Dhabi.

When was the Abu Dhabi Awards established, and how many individuals have been honoured?

The Abu Dhabi Awards was launched in 2005 and has honoured 100 individuals to date, from 18 different nationalities, in 11 rounds.

Is the Abu Dhabi Awards limited to the Emirate of Abu Dhabi?

Open to people from all around the UAE, the Award invites everyone to nominate individuals who have made positive contributions to the community regardless of their age, nationality, or occupation. This includes UAE citizens, residents, or non-residents whose good deeds have positively impacted the UAE.

One nomination is all it takes for an individual to be considered for an Abu Dhabi Award.

In previous editions, the Award has been granted to individuals from various emirates and several countries around the world in recognition of their impactful contributions to the UAE community.

Are there specific categories for the Award?

There are no specific categories for the Award.

The Abu Dhabi Awards is granted to individuals who have carried out good deeds and impactful initiatives across various sectors and areas — including but not limited to - healthcare, volunteerism, scientific contributions, preservation of culture and heritage, environmental protection, and supporting and empowering People of Determination.

What is the nomination process?

You may nominate someone through the Abu Dhabi Awards website by filling out an online form that requests some information about the nominee and their contributions to the UAE community.

Nomination forms are available to everyone, including special forms created for children.

When can I submit a nomination?

Nominations are open year-round, through the Award’s official website: www.abudhabiawards.ae

Who can I nominate?

You may nominate anyone, whether a UAE citizen, resident, or non-resident, regardless of their profession, age, or nationality, as long as the nominee has made significant contributions that positively impacted the UAE community.

What are the requirements to submit a nomination?

The nomination should include detailed information about the nominees, their initiatives, and the impact of those initiatives on the UAE community.

How many people can I nominate?

You can nominate multiple individuals, however, keep in mind that a single nomination is enough for someone to be considered for the Award.

A separate nomination form must be submitted for each nominee.

Can I nominate myself?

No, self-nominations are not accepted.

We encourage you to nominate someone who has made meaningful contributions and positively impacted the UAE community.

Will my nomination be announced?

No, all information related to the nomination remain confidential.

Does the public vote to select the Award recipients?

No, the Award is not granted based on the number of nominations or votes a nominee receives.

Eligibility for the Abu Dhabi Awards is determined based on the merit of the nominee’s achievements, and a single nomination is enough to be considered for the Award.

What is the process of research, evaluation, and judging?

Research and Verification: Each nomination is carefully reviewed. Promising candidates move forward to a thorough process of research and validation conducted by the Abu Dhabi Awards research team.

Evaluation and Selection: Shortlisted nominations are presented to a distinguished judging panel. Through in-depth discussion and deliberation, the panel examines each case before making its final recommendations.

Awards Ceremony: Chosen recipients are formally recognised by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, at an exclusive ceremony.

Who are the members of the judging committee?

The judging committee includes government officials and experts from various sectors across the UAE.

When will the Award recipients be announced?

Will the ceremony be open to the public?
