More than 42,500 nominations submitted for 2008 Abu Dhabi Awards
18 Nov, 2008
The Abu Dhabi Awards Organising Committee has published the final nomination figures for this year's Abu Dhabi Awards campaign, revealing that 42,536 nominations were received during the one-month nomination period. An analysis of these nominations has found that more than 10,000 separate individuals have been nominated for an Abu Dhabi Award in 2008, on the basis of deeds, community spirit or generous actions. Nominations have been received from all three regions of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, including Abu Dhabi City (84%), Al Ain and Al Gharbia. Organisers also noted a particular spike in nominations occurred over the Eid holiday, when nominations increased by over 70 percent, and believe this reflects the strong sense of community spirit that characterizes this period.
"We are pleased with the total number of nominations received, but even more delighted with the increase in how many different individuals were recognised," said Maryam Amiri, Abu Dhabi Awards Organising Committee. "We would like to take the opportunity to thank the members of the community of Abu Dhabi for continuing to support and embrace the philosophy of the Awards."
The Judging process of the nominations is now underway and the 2008 Recipients of the Abu Dhabi Awards will be announced at the prestigious Abu Dhabi Awards ceremony in December. The Awards will be personally presented by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and the ceremony will be televised by Abu Dhabi Al Oula and Abu Dhabi Emirates TV.
