Dr. Fatima Alsayedyousef Al Refaei United Arab Emirates

A pioneer in her field, Dr. Fatima Al Refaei is part of the first generation of nursing professionals in the United Arab Emirates, who played an instrumental role in developing the country’s nursing expertise – now an essential and high-quality component of the UAE’s healthcare system.

With dedication and commitment, Dr. Fatima Al Refaei’s contributions in the field of nursing included establishing the Emirates Nursing Association in 2003, which continues to provide holistic support to the nursing community and encourages UAE citizens to pursue a profession in nursing.

Over the last 30 years, Dr. Fatima Al Refaei has shared her insights and expertise at key industry events and conferences, as well as advised foundations and committees locally, regionally and internationally. Notably, in 2017, Dr. Fatima Al Refaei was elected as a member of the Board of Directors for the International Council of Nurses (ICN) for the Middle East region.

Dr. Fatima Al Refaei earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Texas Women’s University (1979), a Master of Science in Nursing from Case Western Reserve University in Ohio (1989), and a PhD in Nursing from McMaster University, Canada (2008).

Today, Dr. Fatima Al Refaei serves as an Advisor for Nursing Affairs at the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention.
