The late Ibrahim Abdul Rahman Al Abed

The late Ibrahim Al Abed, formerly an Advisor to the National Media Council, was one of the most prominent and influential figures in the country’s media sector.

Dr. Al Abed was the Founder and the Director General of the Emirates News Agency (WAM). established in 1977, the multi-lingual news agency acts as the official source of UAE news globally.

Under his leadership, WAM earned multiple accolades and continued success. His tireless dedication played a major role in preserving, promoting and enhancing the image of the United Arab Emirates locally, regionally and internationally.

He supervised the editing of the UAE Annual Book and other publications issued by its Foreign Media Department.

Al Abed was an invaluable mentor and a resource to generations who benefit from his support and extensive experience.

Al Abed graduated from the American University of Beirut with a major in Political Science and General Management. He won several awards, including the Media Personality of the Year Award in the 13th Arab Journalism Award in 2014 and the Taryam Omran Journalism Award in 2007.
