Dr. George Mathew

Dr. George Mathew, known as “Matyous”, was one of the first doctors who came to Abu Dhabi five decades ago, and the first to work in a public hospital in Al Ain.

He witnessed the beginning of modern medicine in the UAE and contributed significantly to the advancement of healthcare services in the Emirate.

Dr. Mathew was born in 1940 in Kerala, India, and he moved to Abu Dhabi in 1967 where he began his career as a general practitioner in Al Ain.

Over the last five decades, Dr. Mathew held several positions including Medical Director of the Al Ain region in 1972, and Consultant at the Health Authority in 2001, where he made significant contributions to promote modern medical culture. He also played a major role in the education and training of healthcare staff.

Earning the love and confidence of all who knew him, Dr. Mathew, is now a valuable source of medical information to the Al Ain community.
