Dr. Ghassan AlHasan

Jordanian national Dr. Ghassan Al Hasan is one of the region’s most prominent researchers in the field of poetry and an expert in Nabati poetry.

Dr. Al Hasan has spent more than 40 years in the United Arab Emirates and is currently a cultural consultant in the Cultural Programmes and Heritage Festivals Committee, an affiliate of Abu Dhabi Tourism and Cultural Authority. He oversaw numerous projects to preserve Emirati cultural heritage and revive the traditional Nabati Poetry in the United Arab Emirates.

As the only person in the world to have earned a Doctorate in Nabati Poetry, his expertise and perspective have added immense value to the documentation and authentication of this type of poetry.

Dr. Al Hassan also used his expertise to make valuable contributions to Nabati poetry and provide a broader academic perspective on its collection, analysis and documentation.

Dr. Hassan has authored several books on the subject, most importantly: Nabati Poetry During the Procession of Sheikh Zayed, Collection of the Taghrooda UAE Poems: an academic study of the Tghrooda in the UAE folklore.

He also played an active role in the nomination of Al-Ayyala and Al-Taghrooda on the UNESCO’s List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
